An Entirely Virtual Conference

October 29, 2020

The ninth edition of the JMap Users Conference took place on October 28. We initially planned it as a traditional in-person conference, then we aimed for a hybrid event, before finally moving to an entirely virtual format. All things considered, the event turned out to be a success despite these trying times! K2 Geospatial’s team worked hard with its partners Reflex and Encore Canada to make this day possible. We didn’t really know what to expect, and despite a few technical issues on the day of the event, we are very proud and pleased that we had the opportunity to hold our 2020 users conference virtually. Hosting an online conference was a first for K2 Geospatial.

The event featured several of our partners, who presented their current projects. These high impact projects resonate with K2’s values and raison d’être in many different ways. To watch the replay of the presentations, visit our YouTube channel.

We would like to thank K2 Geospatial’s entire innovation ecosystem for making our conference possible this year, including Denis Courchesne (Info-Excavation), Cédric Marceau (Communauté Métropolitaine de Montréal), Nicolas Delffon (Anagraph), Jean-Christophe Bouvard and Jean-Charles Genois (Visiativ), Yao Eudes Loh, Claude Hugo Koubikana and Alexandre Mobiot (Tecina International), Denis Courchesne (Info-Excavation), Tom Landry (Computer Research Institute of Montreal), Line Renaud (Québec City International Airport), Jean-Yves Lauture (Eos Positioning Systems), and René-Luc Morin (Irosoft).

We’d also like to thank our panellists, who engaged in discussions about the cities and communities of tomorrow. Beyond their expertise in specific areas (smart cities, sustainable mobility, geriatrics, etc.), our panellists unanimously agree that addressing the needs of citizens/humans is paramount to creating happy, sustainable and productive cities. Special thanks to Michel Anger (Chair of the UMQ’s Smart Cities Round Table), Nathalie Bier (Associate Professor, Université de Montréal and Researcher at the Centre de recherche de l'Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal), Catherine Morency (Professor at Polytechnique Montréal, Holder of the Canada Research Chair on Personal Mobility and of the Chair in Mobility (sustainability in transportation)), Martine Rioux, (Digital Transformation Ambassador), Mireille Jean (President of TRIONIQ Inc. and Smart City Solutions MBA candidate at the Stuttgart Technology University of Applied Sciences) and Tanya Abramovitch (City Manager for Côte Saint-Luc).

Last but not least, a big thanks to Luc Vaillancourt and Pascal Beauchesne, our two hosts for the day. By being present, listening intently and asking challenging questions, you held the attention of our participants, who sat through the conference in front of their screens all day. That’s quite an amazing feat!
