On GIS Day, hundreds of events and activities are held around the world to highlight the importance of geographic information systems and geospatial data and applications.

There is a consensus that these celebrations bring together geospatial community members, no matter where they are located. Thus, GIS can take on many forms and meanings.

But what about the definition of a GIS? Is there a universal formulation that defines it? The K2 Geospatial team decided to examine this question.
