* The International Geographical Union (IGU) held its regional conference in Quebec City from August 6th to 1 2018. The selection of Quebec City was made last August 17 in Krakow, Poland, during a recent reunion of the executive committee of the IGU, an organisation that dates back to 1871. The IGUs forty different commissions united around the theme of “Accounting for Difference”. Joining the meeting was the Canadian Association of Geographers and the newly created Regroupement des géographes du Québec, who played host to the event. The local organising committee, based in the Department of Geography at the Université Laval, was chaired by Dr. Matthew Hatvany and assisted by Dr. Laurent Bourdeau who together piloted the bid leading to the IGU announcement to geographers worldwide to meet in Quebec City in four years. The goal was, firstly, to offer the international community of geographers the best possible conditions to share and disseminate their knowledge and, secondly, to stimulate, while at the same time making the geography of Quebec and Canada better known.
