K2 Geospatial Launches Two Initiatives to Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day

June 21, 2022

Montréal, June 21, 2022 – On this National Indigenous Peoples Day, K2 Geospatial is announcing a grant for Indigenous students and a day off for all company employees. Both initiatives are intended to celebrate the unique heritage, cultural diversity and remarkable achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

K2 Geospatial, a Montréal-based leader in geomatics, is taking concrete actions as part of its environmental, social and governance policy implemented in April 2021. Starting today, the company will be offering a grant for Indigenous students to pursue their university studies. This $3,000 grant will be awarded annually to a student pursuing a graduate degree at Université Laval, in any discipline. Students wishing to apply can do so directly via the Université Laval website until November 15, 2022. Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee.

“This is an opportunity for students to continue their studies by pursuing a graduate degree. After completing an undergraduate degree, some students may be reluctant to continue studying because of the high costs. With this grant, K2 Geospatial wishes to encourage and support Indigenous students’ access to graduate studies,” said Jacques Charron, President and CEO of K2 Geospatial. “Students interested in applying are encouraged to visit the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office, at the Université Laval student services department, for details about the grant.”

Across Canada, many actions and events take place on National Indigenous Peoples Day. K2 Geospatial’s decision to establish June 21 as a day off for all its employees is intended to demonstrate the company’s sincere support for Indigenous communities.

“Small actions go a long way. If K2 Geospatial’s move inspires other companies across the province to make June 21 a holiday, we will have been succeeded in highlighting the importance of this day,” said Mr. Charron.
