Jump Into the Future

May 6, 2013

Montreal, Canada, May 6, 2013 - Montreal firm K2 Geospatial is pleased to announce the fifth generation of its JMap mapping integration platform, a solution that allows simplified access to spatial data and its analysis tools through an interactive, secure, and web-based tool using the internet, intranet and mobile devices.

Once again, K2 Geospatial will amaze JMap users and administrators with the fifth major release of the software since 2000. JMap 5.0 offers significant enhancements to earlier versions to help companies optimize asset management and improve access to spatial analysis tools.

In JMap 5, many new features have been added to the application’s processes and functionalities, including the following:

• The application’s mobile version allows users to view and edit vector and/or tabular data from smartphones and tablets. Users now have the ability to determine their location using their devices’ GPS. They can also use the application to enter data and take georeferenced photos on-site. This new approach paves the way for developing inventory entry and asset inspection applications.

• JMap administrators can now use graphic design tools to create data entry, attribute query forms and make these available to users.

• JMap 5 allows two or more organizations or departments that each have their own JMap server to share layers and data sources. This new technology makes it possible to build distributed environments without duplicating data and share layers and their parameters (styles, themes, labels, etc.) between various projects, whether coming from the same or different servers.

• New data formats are supported in JMap 5, including FileGeoDatabase (ESRI), TAB (MapInfo), GeoJSON, and GPX.

• In JMap 5.0, JMapAdmin can be used to define metadata templates, create links (URLs) towards existing metadata management systems and enter layer metadata.

• Storage in WKB format is standard in JMap 5. This allows third-party software to access JMap’s data, including layer data edited in JMap.

After several months of development, K2 Geospatial’s team is proud to officially launch this new version. Like its predecessors, it is sure to surprise and please users.

Jean-Robert Desbiens-Haddad, CTO, declared:

"With JMap 5.0, we are making a giant leap forward in terms of data integration, dissemination and editing. JMap has been designed as a distributed platform since its very beginning, and now, JMap 5.0 offers even more possibilities with its innovative functionalities, which allow users to collaborate and share data between systems. Best of all, the technology can be deployed with remarkable ease in just a few minutes."

Since 1995, K2 Geospatial has been committed to bringing spatial information and analysis tools to everyone by developing software solutions that provide effective visual aids to decision makers.
